Trump says Russia will supply diesel to US and global markets

US President Donald Trump said he reached an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin for Russia to supply diesel to US and global markets.

Trump said 300,000 tonnes would be sent immediately, followed by 500,000 tonnes in November and 1 million tonnes soon after.

He also said Russia could provide another 3 million tonnes within a short period, depending on refinery conditions.

The figures described would amount to up to 4.8 million tonnes if all the deliveries happen.

Trump linked the announcement to the Strait of Hormuz and predicted diesel prices would fall quickly in the United States and elsewhere.

He said lower prices would benefit Americans, including farmers, ranchers and truck drivers.

The announcement gave no details about how the shipments would be arranged.
