Drone strikes damage two Yandex data centers in Russia
Drone attacks damaged two of Yandex’s five data centers in Russia within two days.
One was in Sasovo, in the Ryazan region, and the other was in Kaluga, southwest of Moscow.
The Sasovo facility caught fire and stopped operating, while several modules at the Kaluga site were disabled.
Yandex runs popular services including a search engine, food ordering and taxis, and warned that some services could be disrupted.
The company said no employees were injured at either site, while Kaluga’s governor said nine people were injured in attacks on infrastructure in the region.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the strikes were a response to Russian attacks on Ukrainian data centers.
Yandex is assessing the damage and working to keep services running, but it said it was difficult to predict when the affected facilities would be back online.
