Trump says Russia and Ukraine agreed to energy ceasefire

U.S. President Donald Trump said Russia and Ukraine had agreed to stop attacks on each other’s energy infrastructure, effective immediately.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the announcement was new to him, but Ukraine would accept a ceasefire if Russia agreed to it.

He has said Ukraine is ready to stop striking Russian oil refineries if Moscow halts attacks on Ukraine’s energy system.

Russia had not commented, and Trump gave no details about the terms.

Russia has repeatedly attacked Ukrainian energy facilities since its full-scale invasion in February 2022, while Ukraine has struck Russian refineries.

These attacks are part of a wider aerial conflict, even as the armies remain largely deadlocked on the front line.

Zelensky said Ukraine was awaiting details, while Trump has also pressed him to stop attacks on Russian refineries and called for Ukraine to choose a new leader.
