US, Ukraine and European officials discuss a plan to end the war
Officials from the United States, Ukraine and European countries met in Miami on October 9 to discuss ways to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.
They discussed security guarantees, protecting energy supplies through winter, grain exports and Ukraine’s future recovery and possible European Union membership.
Some discussions also addressed territory, a major obstacle because Ukraine rejects giving up land held by Russia.
The talks came as President Donald Trump said Russia would supply diesel to global markets, and the US temporarily eased restrictions on Russian fuel.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticised the move, saying the money could support Russia’s war.
The meeting produced no announced agreement, but US envoy Steve Witkoff said it identified issues for further discussion.
Ukraine’s delegation was expected to brief Zelensky after returning to Kyiv, while wider talks with Russia and Ukraine were being considered for later in October.
