Former Hubei Deputy Political Adviser Sentenced to 14 Years for Bribery

A court in Shangqiu, Henan province, sentenced Zhou Xianwang to 14 years in prison for bribery on October 10, 2026.

Zhou is a former vice-chairman of the Hubei Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and held several other senior posts in Hubei.

The court found that from 2003 to May 2025, he used his positions to help people and organizations with projects, business operations and administrative approvals.

In return, he received money and other benefits worth more than 60.5 million yuan.

He was also fined 5 million yuan, and recovered proceeds and related gains are to be turned over to the state; any shortfall will continue to be pursued.

The court said he admitted wrongdoing, cooperated with investigators and returned assets, which helped reduce his sentence; most of the proceeds had already been recovered.
