Spain will turn clocks back one hour on October 25

Spain will change from summer time to winter time on Sunday, October 25, 2026.

On the mainland and in the Balearic Islands, clocks will go back from 3 a.m.

to 2 a.m.; in the Canary Islands, they will go back from 2 a.m.

to 1 a.m.

The change gives the calendar day an extra hour, so people can sleep an hour longer if they keep their usual bedtime.

It also means it will get dark earlier in the afternoon.

The change follows a shared European Union schedule and was intended to align daily activity with daylight.

Whether the energy savings justify the effects on sleep and daily routines remains debated.

Most phones and computers update automatically, but clocks and appliances without internet access may need to be changed by hand.

Spain is scheduled to return to summer time in spring 2027.
