More than 800 Minas Gerais tax auditors donated to state candidates
More than 800 active and retired tax auditors in Minas Gerais donated to 16 candidates for the state assembly.
Eleven of those candidates were elected.
Most individual donations were R$1,000, and the largest was R$3,000.
Eduardo Azevedo, brother of governor-elect Cleitinho, received the most from auditors: R$89,500.
The auditors’ union said it neither makes donations nor gets involved in candidates’ campaigns, and described the contributions as individuals’ political choice.
The donations came as auditors had been pressing state lawmakers to approve a bill on a productivity bonus paid to auditors and finance managers.
Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court ruled in 2025 that changes to the bonus must be set by law, and the bill is awaiting review by a state assembly committee.
