Brazil court suspends Stake’s temporary permission to operate

Brazil’s Regional Federal Court of the 3rd Region suspended a temporary ruling that allowed betting platform Stake Brazil to keep operating until October 25.

The company had won that ruling from a federal court in São Paulo.

The federal government appealed through the Attorney General’s Office.

The appeals court said allowing Stake to operate while other betting companies faced restrictions could create unequal rules and weaken the government’s policy.

The decision restores the effects of a federal measure that prohibits betting businesses in Brazil.

The measure followed the sector’s regulation in 2023, which had allowed licensed companies to operate.

The suspension will remain in place until the original case reaches a final judgment or the court’s president issues a new decision.
