Film ‘Tenzing’ revisits the first successful Everest summit in 1953

The film “Tenzing” tells the story of the first successful climb to the top of Mount Everest, in 1953.

The summit team was led by the British and included Sherpa guides, who knew the mountains better than many of the climbers.

The first two people to reach the top were Tenzing Norgay, a Sherpa, and New Zealander Edmund Hillary.

Tenzing had dreamed of climbing Everest since he was a boy.

For decades, his contribution was played down, and he was often presented as Hillary’s assistant.

The film aims to give Tenzing recognition as a mountaineer in his own right.

Their climb was dangerous, with storms, steep cliffs and air so thin it could kill.

The film is a drama directed by Jennifer Peedom, who has spent 18 years making documentaries about mountain climbing.
