Pierre Aderne’s new album brings Portuguese-speaking music traditions together
Singer and songwriter Pierre Aderne will launch “Povo Brasileiro” in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday at the Circo Voador venue.
The album brings together samba and fado with rhythms from former Portuguese colonies, including semba, morna and coladeira.
Aderne was born in Toulouse to a Portuguese father and a Brazilian mother, and has lived and worked in several cities.
He moved to Portugal in 2011 and began hosting musical gatherings in Lisbon with artists from different countries.
The album reflects 15 years of musical exchange in Portugal, and takes its title from a classic book by Brazilian anthropologist Darcy Ribeiro.
It features Portuguese fado singer Ana Margarida Prado and Cape Verdean singer Zulu, alongside Brazilian musicians.
Aderne will present the album with several guest artists at the Rio show.

What people are saying
I began to take an interest in all that incredibly rich musical tradition: Portuguese fado, Cape Verdean morna, Angolan semba and various other rhythms.
It was transformative.
