Coupang to compensate customers, riders and restaurants after system outage

Coupang experienced a system outage in South Korea around midnight on October 9 that lasted more than two hours.

Its app and website were inaccessible, and internal systems used for logistics were also disrupted.

Some deliveries could not be completed, and orders were cancelled.

Coupang plans to give customers whose product orders were cancelled 5,000 won in Coupang Cash, usable for six months.

Coupang Eats will give a 3,000-won coupon to customers whose food orders were cancelled and a 1,000-won coupon to customers who tried but could not place an order.

Riders whose accepted orders were cancelled may receive 1,000 won if they reached the restaurant, or the full delivery fee if they had picked up the food.

Coupang Eats also plans to compensate restaurant owners for cancelled orders, while rider payments will be made automatically on the next settlement date.
