HBO plans five-episode Girls revival with original cast

HBO is bringing back Girls for a five-episode limited run, with production due to begin in 2027.

Creator and star Lena Dunham will return as Hannah Horvath, alongside Allison Williams, Zosia Mamet, Jemima Kirke and Andrew Rannells.

The original series followed a group of friends in their twenties in New York City, and ran from 2012 to 2017.

The revival comes about a decade after the finale, and is intended to show the characters at a later stage of life.

Dunham said she wanted a specific story to tell before returning to the show.

The new episodes reunite the central cast and executive producer Judd Apatow, giving longtime viewers a chance to see the characters again.

The title, plot and any additional cast members have not been announced, so more details are still to come.

To say the world has changed since we last saw Hannah, Marnie, Shoshanna, Jessa and Elijah is a massive understatement, but we know fans – old and new – will be happy to see how they’ve grown and relieved to see that they’re still the Girls we knew way back when.
