Mitsuru Oikawa to replace Yasunori Terawaki as partner in Aibou season 25
Aibou season 25 will pass its partner role from Kaoru Kameyama to Son Kōbe during the new season on Japan’s TV Asahi network.
Kameyama is played by Yasunori Terawaki, while Kōbe is played by Mitsuru Oikawa, and both work alongside detective Ukyo Sugishita, played by Yutaka Mizutani.
Kōbe is returning to the role more than a decade after leaving the special police unit known as the Special Mission Team.
He was the show’s second partner, while Kameyama returned to the series in season 21 after leaving earlier.
The handover is the fifth partner change in the series and comes in its 25th season, which begins on October 21.
The show started in 2000 and has become TV Asahi’s longest-running serial drama.
The exact timing and reasons for the change are still unknown, including why Kameyama leaves and how Kōbe returns to the team.
TV Asahi will also rebroadcast six selected episodes featuring Sugishita and Kameyama, starting October 14 in the Kanto region.
TV Asahi announced that Mitsuru Oikawa will return as Minoru Kanbe and take over as partner to Yutaka Mizutani’s Ukyo Sugishita from Yasufumi Terawaki’s Kaoru Kameyama during Aibou season 25.
The timing of the handover and the reasons for the characters’ changes have not been disclosed.
