iOS 27 Adds On-Device Detection for Some Impersonation Scams

Apple added Impersonation Risk Detection to iOS 27, released in September.

The feature is designed to flag scams that impersonate trusted people or organizations, such as banks or government agencies, to steal money or account details.

It checks interaction patterns, timing and context, and analyzes the activity on the device, without sending personal data to Apple or the app.

In supported apps, the risk level may lead to a warning, a delay or a request to verify your identity.

To enable it, open Settings, then Privacy & Security, tap Impersonation Risk Detection and turn on Share with App Developers.

Activation can take up to 24 hours, and the feature is not available in every app or able to catch every scam.
