Google Play lets users run private AI-built Android apps

Google is adding a way to run personally built Android apps through Google Play without publishing them for everyone.

The feature is for people who create apps with AI tools such as Google AI Studio for their own needs.

Until now, using an app on an Android device meant publishing it on the Play Store, where it could be accessed by the store’s users.

These new apps will stay private and won’t appear in Play Store listings, but they must still follow Google Play’s policies.

At first, the feature will be available to users in the U.S. aged 18 and over.

Google says users will be able to share these apps with trusted friends in the months ahead.

If an app becomes popular, its creator can seek to publish it for everyone after trust and safety reviews.
