Two arrested after Delhi Metro seat dispute ends in man’s death

A 48-year-old man, Pawan Sharma, died after a dispute on a Delhi Metro train turned physical.

Police say Sharma was travelling with his mother, Durga Devi, on October 8, and they were sitting in seats designated for senior citizens.

A 65-year-old former civil servant and his 36-year-old son boarded at Mandi House station, and a disagreement over the seats followed.

Police say Sharma was slapped and pushed during the altercation.

At Supreme Court station, he collapsed on the platform and was taken to hospital, where he was declared dead.

The former official and his son, both from Noida, have been arrested on suspicion of culpable homicide and acting with common intention, and remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.

Police say the investigation is continuing.
