Farmer and temple priest found dead after suspected leopard attack in Magadi

Shivaswamy, a 60-year-old farmer and temple priest, was found dead in his field in Kalludevanahalli village, Magadi taluk, on Monday morning.

He had gone there to pluck flowers, and a neighbouring farmer later found him lying in a pool of blood.

The death is suspected to have resulted from a leopard attack, but the cause has not been confirmed and is subject to a postmortem examination.

Villagers said a leopard had attacked cattle in the area a few days earlier.

They protested, accusing the Forest Department of failing to prevent attacks, and called for the animal to be captured and for compensation for Shivaswamy’s family.

Forest officials visited the site and said compensation would be provided under the rules and steps would be taken to capture the suspected leopard.

Police have filed an Unnatural Death Report.
