Fachin delays full access to Brazil’s fake news inquiry pending review
Brazilian Supreme Court President Edson Fachin has denied Justice Luiz Fux immediate full access to the court’s fake news inquiry.
The inquiry opened seven years ago and was led by Justice Alexandre de Moraes before responsibility moved to Fachin.
The court says 104 related procedures, including petitions and preliminary investigations, still need review.
Fachin says the review will determine whether further steps are needed, including sending files to police and the prosecutor-general’s office.
Those bodies may consider charges, requests to close cases or other measures.
Fachin has indicated that the inquiry is expected to be permanently archived after the pending work is completed, and its documents made public.
Other related proceedings are already public and can be accessed immediately.
