Azul Conecta to offset emissions from all 2026 flights
Azul Conecta, the regional arm of Brazilian airline Azul, has partnered with energy company Auren to offset emissions from all its flights in 2026.
The plan covers emissions linked to fuel use and is part of Azul’s voluntary Conecta NetZero program.
It is expected to cover about 10,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent without adding a charge for passengers.
The credits come from Auren wind farms and have been independently checked under a certification standard.
Once used, the credits will be removed from the registry so they cannot be used again.
Offsetting does not stop aircraft from burning fuel or producing emissions; it balances a measured amount with credits linked to emissions reductions or removals.
Azul says its wider efforts include more efficient operations and fleet upgrades, and that its carbon intensity fell about 20% between 2019 and 2025.
The credits will be retired in Verra’s registry after use, but the sources give no further timetable or next step.
Azul Conecta will use certified carbon credits to compensate for fuel-related emissions from all its flights during 2026.
The voluntary Conecta NetZero initiative is being carried out with energy company Auren Energia and will not add costs for passengers.
The companies estimate the emissions to be offset at about 10,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent.
The credits come from Auren’s Ventos do Piauí I and Ventos do Araripe III wind complexes and are certified under the Verified Carbon Standard.
After use, the credits will be retired in the Verra registry in Azul Conecta’s name to prevent them from being used again.
