Final Demand disqualified after positive test; Mullins fined

Final Demand finished second in the Brown Advisory Novices' Chase at the Cheltenham Festival on 11 March 2026.

The horse later tested positive for mepivacaine, a local anaesthetic used to treat racehorses.

A British Horseracing Authority panel disqualified the horse from the race.

Trainer Willie Mullins was fined £1,100 for failing to declare the drug on the horse’s medical forms before the race.

The panel said there was no suggestion that Mullins or his staff knew the drug had been given, and that reasonable precautions were in place.

It could not establish how the substance entered the horse’s system.

The investigation also found that required CCTV footage from one yard had been misplaced, and Cheltenham was fined £5,000 over that breach.
