Aberdeen face questions over scoring after fifth league blank
Aberdeen lost at home to St Johnstone without scoring, despite having most of the possession and taking 22 shots.
The blank was the fifth in the team’s first eight league matches this season.
Aberdeen have scored seven league goals, and four came in one 4-0 win over Motherwell.
Their low number of shots on target and chances created points to a problem in building effective attacks, not just finishing.
Kevin Nisbet has scored three of the seven goals, leaving Robinson calling for other players to contribute.
Robinson says he sees enough quality in training for the team to improve, but the club’s higher ambitions mean the poor scoring record is a concern.
Aberdeen’s next task is to find more creative ways to break down opponents and turn chances into goals.
Aberdeen have scored only seven goals in their first eight league matches this season, including five matches without scoring.
Their 1-0 home defeat by St Johnstone on Sunday was the latest blank, despite Aberdeen having 65% possession and 22 shots.
Manager Stephen Robinson says the team has the quality to improve, but accepts that players need to score more.
Former Aberdeen player Willie Miller said the team’s attacking play was predictable and that they got what they deserved.
Aberdeen have the league’s lowest expected-goals figure, at 8.3, and average 2.9 shots on target per match.

Outwith Kevin Nisbet, we're not scoring enough goals.
What I see in training is that we have that quality.
