Widi says he did not know money was linked to Caruy land sale

Former army commander Widi Prasetijono testified in court in Jakarta on Monday in a case over the purchase of land in Cilacap, Indonesia.

He said money sent by Andhi Nur Huda, a former director of PT Rumpun Sari Antan, was meant to support social activities.

Widi said he did not know the transfers were linked to the Caruy land sale, which involved land suspected of belonging to the state.

He said the money was sent to accounts held by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, and that he did not take it for his own benefit.

Judges questioned the timing of the transfers, which were close to payments by a local government-owned company for the land.

Widi said he only learned the land had been sold after Andhi later brought a cheque to his office.

A BPK auditor previously said Widi received Rp21 billion, an amount Widi acknowledged in a separate court hearing.

The trial is examining alleged corruption and gratification connected to the land purchase.
