Junts highlights blocked tax rises and measures it says it secured
Junts, a Catalan political party, has defended its record in Spain’s Congress during the current legislative term.
In a response to Catalan president Salvador Illa, party spokesperson Míriam Nogueras listed measures Junts says it helped pass or block.
They included tax breaks for some businesses, delaying a new invoicing system and keeping contributions for self-employed workers from rising.
Junts also cited measures on care for people with ALS, Catalan language use in Congress and funding for local administrations.
The exchange comes as the Socialists press Junts to say whether it would support either Pedro Sánchez or Alberto Núñez Feijóo as prime minister.
Junts says it will not align with a political bloc in advance and will put Catalonia’s interests first.
The party plans to use that approach in the coming weeks.
Junts presented measures it says it secured or blocked during the current legislative term to Catalan President Salvador Illa.
The party said its parliamentary group had helped stop tax increases proposed by Spain’s central government and secure other measures.
Junts spokesperson Míriam Nogueras accused Illa of being submissive to the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party and the central government.
The measures Nogueras listed included tax relief for small businesses and cooperatives, delaying Verifactu invoicing rules and not raising self-employed workers’ contributions.
Junts also cited laws on repeat offending and support for people with ALS, as well as allowing Catalan to be spoken in Spain’s Congress.
