Mertxe Aizpurua will not run again for EH Bildu in November election
Mertxe Aizpurua, EH Bildu’s spokesperson in Spain’s Congress, will not run for another term in the 29 November general election.
She has decided to step aside after serving three legislatures and expects to retire soon.
Aizpurua turned 66 in January.
EH Bildu is a political party led by Arnaldo Otegi.
The party will announce its proposed candidates for Congress and the Senate on 16 October.
Its members will vote on the candidates on 17 and 18 October, and the results will be announced on 19 October.
Aizpurua’s departure means EH Bildu will choose a new candidate to represent it in Congress.
Mertxe Aizpurua will not stand again for EH Bildu in the Spanish general election on November 29, according to reports citing the party.
The party’s spokesperson in Congress made the decision herself and says she has completed a stage of her life.
She expects to retire soon after serving three parliamentary terms.
EH Bildu plans to announce its proposed candidates on October 16, with members voting on October 17 and 18.
The results are due to be proclaimed on October 19.
