Resident Evil Becomes Zach Cregger’s Highest-Grossing Film as Social Reckoning Struggles

Resident Evil, a live-action film based on Capcom’s survival horror series, has earned an estimated $320.2 million worldwide.

That puts it ahead of Weapons, which made $270 million, as director Zach Cregger’s highest-grossing film.

The movie opened on September 18, 2026, and its fourth weekend in theaters saw it return to the global top spot.

Its release in China helped drive that weekend’s earnings, bringing in $40.6 million of the film’s $62.65 million total.

The result is well above the film’s reported $75 million budget, despite online criticism before its release over changes to the series’ characters and story.

Meanwhile, The Social Reckoning, a sequel to The Social Network, opened in seventh place with $9 million, against a reported $30 million budget.

Capcom’s live-action Street Fighter movie and Nathan Fielder’s You Can See Everything are due in theaters on October 16, followed by Clayface on October 23.
