Intel reportedly plans new LGA 1700 CPUs for early 2027
Gigabyte says Intel is expected to release new processors for its LGA 1700 socket in early 2027.
The socket has been used since 2021 and supports motherboards with either DDR4 or DDR5 memory.
Intel has not confirmed the new processors, which are expected to be updated versions of older Raptor Lake and Alder Lake chips.
DDR4 is currently much cheaper than DDR5: a 32GB kit costs about $210, compared with about $480 for DDR5.
Intel executive Robert Hallock has said Raptor Lake chips will remain available for years and pointed to continued interest in DDR4.
Gigabyte says owners of some B760 and H610 motherboards can prepare for the processors with a BIOS update, avoiding a motherboard replacement.
The chips could give people with older systems a less expensive upgrade option, though DDR4 is slower than DDR5 and the performance difference varies.
Gigabyte says Intel plans new processors for the LGA 1700 socket, with a launch expected in early 2027.
The socket supports both DDR4 and DDR5 memory, and the new chips are expected to refresh Intel’s Raptor Lake and Alder Lake lines.
The reported plan comes as memory prices have risen and DDR4 remains cheaper than DDR5.
Gigabyte says owners of some existing B760 and H610 motherboards can use the upcoming processors after a BIOS update.
Intel has not confirmed the reported plan.

This story does not have two clearly opposing sides.
Built on socket LGA1700 and expected to launch in early 2027
LGA1700 is still a good socket. Lots of people [are] still interested in DDR4, so [we’ll] keep offering, and you'll see [pricing] smooth out over time. It'll come back to normal. That's the plan.
With Gigabyte's latest BIOS, owners of existing B760 and H610 motherboards, DDR5 and DDR4 models alike, can step up to upcoming processors in three simple moves: download the BIOS, update, and drop in the new CPU.
Intel executive Robert Hallock said Raptor Lake chips would remain in Intel’s portfolio for years to come.
