Travel nurses in Saskatchewan say staffing agency owes them months of pay
Travel nurses say EZ Care has not paid them for months after they worked at health-care facilities in Canada.
Shalu, an emergency room nurse at Parkland Integrated Health Centre in Shellbrook, Saskatchewan, says she is owed about $50,000 for work and expenses.
The nurses were hired through an Ontario-based staffing agency to fill temporary staffing gaps, including in rural hospitals.
EZ Care warned nurses of pay delays around the end of July, citing an agency transition, but Shalu says the new company named in the letter never took over.
About 25 nurses were left without pay, according to Shalu, who says the agency has stopped responding.
Some nurses temporarily stopped working, creating staffing problems and adding pressure on nurses who remained at the hospital.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority says it is aware of payroll issues but cannot intervene; no resolution is stated.
