Mexico’s military hospital fills just 56% of prescriptions in 2026

Mexico’s Central Military Hospital filled only 56% of prescriptions in 2026, according to figures from the military health directorate.

The hospital serves soldiers and their families, who are entitled to care through the military health system.

Patients had to buy medicines themselves when prescriptions went unfilled or were incomplete.

Prescription supply there had been between 90% and 98% for decades, but began falling in 2023.

It reached 65.70% in 2023, 63.98% in 2024 and 75.69% in 2025 before dropping to 56.46% in 2026.

The decline contrasts with rising military health spending, which reached 9.437 billion pesos in 2025; 6.922 billion pesos was programmed for 2026, and the final amount could be higher because the budget has been expanded in past years.

The sources do not say what steps will be taken next to improve medicine supplies.
