Málaga’s El Perchel to get 138 homes after residents reach agreements
Dazia Capital plans to build 138 homes in Callejones del Perchel, part of the historic El Perchel neighborhood in Málaga, Spain.
The project will replace blocks where about 50 people still lived when the company acquired the properties in 2021.
Residents initially opposed the redevelopment, and the dispute reached the courts.
The company later withdrew its lawsuits and negotiated with residents individually, with help from a local citizen advocate.
Twenty-four residents moved into social housing provided by Andalusia’s regional government, and two received homes from Málaga’s city council.
Some tenants with old-style rent contracts agreed to compensation of up to €170,000, while a 92-year-old resident secured a lifelong monthly payment.
The new homes will be for sale, with prices starting at €390,000; the developer expects to have permission to begin construction in summer 2027 and to hand over homes in early 2029.
