PSOE and left-wing parties discuss a joint Senate list

Spain’s PSOE and other left-wing parties are discussing whether to run together for the Senate.

A simulation of the 2023 election suggests a shared list could have won 116 of the 208 seats elected directly, instead of the 73 won by the PSOE alone.

Adding senators appointed by regional parliaments, the hypothetical alliance would have had 135 seats, one more than the majority mark.

The estimate assumes voters would have backed the joint list in the same way, so it is not a result that actually happened.
