Illa presses Spain’s government to advance Catalonia power grid plan
The dissolution of Spain’s parliament ahead of the 29 November election has left up to 300 parliamentary initiatives unfinished.
Catalonia’s government says a plan for the electricity transmission network is important for homes, industry and transport.
The plan proposes €17.14 billion in investment and up to 791 new connection points, including 40 in Catalonia.
Salvador Illa is pressing Spain’s central government to finish the plan’s processing before the election.
One project depending on extra power capacity is a planned gigafactory in Móra la Nova, whose first phase is assured 54 megawatts.
A later phase, expected around 2030 to 2032, would need 125 megawatts.
The plan is a decree rather than a law, so it only needs to be presented to the Congress’s permanent commission, which can happen up to the last working day before the election.
Salvador Illa is pressing Spain’s government to complete the electricity-grid plan, which Catalonia says is important for future power needs.
The plan involves €17.14 billion in investment and up to 791 new connection points across Spain.
Catalonia is due to receive 40 of the plan’s 300 distribution points.
The future gigafactory in Móra la Nova needs additional grid capacity for its second phase, expected around 2030–2032.
The plan could be notified to a congressional committee before the November 29 election without requiring congressional approval.
