Feijóo urges regional leaders to campaign hard ahead of 29 November election
Alberto Núñez Feijóo, leader of Spain’s People’s Party (PP), has called on the party’s regional leaders to campaign actively before the 29 November election.
He wants them to organise campaign tours across their regions and mobilise party members, as if they were also facing an election.
The PP governs in 11 of Spain’s 17 regions, giving the party a network it can use during the campaign.
Feijóo is seeking to avoid a repeat of the 2023 election, when polls suggested he would win but he fell short of forming a government.
The PP sees Catalonia as a key area because the PSOE’s lead there helped it retain power after that election.
The party is considering putting Badalona mayor Xavier García Albiol at the top of its candidate list for Barcelona, but no decision is stated.
Feijóo has also said he will take part in a second televised debate with candidates from the four leading parties, after skipping one in 2023.
