Madrid candidacy dispute stalls Spain’s left-wing coalition talks
Four left-wing parties in Spain are negotiating a coalition called the Frente Amplio.
Talks have stalled over who should lead its list in Madrid and whether Podemos should join.
Más Madrid has proposed regional lawmaker Emilio Delgado for the top spot in Madrid, followed by minister Mónica García.
It also backs former Barcelona mayor Ada Colau to lead the list in Barcelona.
The proposal comes after ERC politician Gabriel Rufián reached an agreement with his party, ending uncertainty that had delayed coalition discussions.
Podemos wants candidates and list order chosen through primaries, with voting scheduled for October 14 and 15, but it has not said whether it will join the coalition.
Colau has said she would lead the Barcelona list only if Podemos is included.
The parties still need to agree on their candidates and whether they will run together.

Podemos has insisted on primaries to choose candidates and rank the list, and has started its own process.

Podemos
Podemos insists on primaries to select the candidate and rank the list.
With the aim of unblocking the current situation, Más Madrid proposes an agreement in which Ada Colau would lead the Frente Amplio candidacy in the Barcelona constituency, while Emilio Delgado and Mónica García would lead the candidacy in Madrid.
We believe that a Frente Amplio led by Ada Colau in Barcelona and Emilio Delgado in Madrid, with the support of the other left-wing forces, is the best option to form a progressive government again, capable of stopping the far right from coming to power and beginning to solve the housing problem in our country.
The coalition parties lost two days while waiting for Gabriel Rufián to decide whether to lead a list with ERC.
The four parties resumed urgent talks, and Más Madrid put forward its proposal for the Madrid and Barcelona candidates.
The deadline to submit Podemos primary candidacies passed.
