Report staff says it never sought Ranucci’s removal
The staff of Report, an Italian television program, says it never voted to remove its host, Sigfrido Ranucci, or asked the broadcaster to do so.
The statement followed a Rome labor court decision rejecting Ranucci’s request to return immediately as host.
The court said the broadcaster’s decision to remove him was legitimate, citing a deep rift between Ranucci and most of the team after the Lavitola case.
The staff says its proposals were meant to support him and protect the program, not push him out.
In June, some reporters proposed adding two co-authors to work with him, and in July the whole team proposed that change along with a coordinating role for staff and reporters.
The proposal was discussed and approved almost unanimously, but was not adopted.
The staff says decisions about who hosts are the broadcaster’s responsibility and says it will defend the program’s independence through its investigations.
The court ruling closes the legal dispute over Ranucci’s immediate return, while the staff says its work will continue as a collective effort.
