Vox leader skips Spain’s national day parade to visit Ceuta

Santiago Abascal, leader of Spain’s Vox party, did not attend the military parade for Spain’s National Day on 12 October.

He went instead to Ceuta, a Spanish autonomous city, with Jordan Bardella, leader of France’s National Rally party.

Abascal said Ceuta was still “invaded” despite migrants having been cleared from a beach.

That description is his claim, and he blamed Morocco and Spain’s government for what he said had happened.

He also said he did not want to share a platform with Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.

Abascal called for all migrants he described as invaders to be expelled and for the border to be reinforced and militarised.

The sources give no details of any next steps.
