Nine face legal action in second wave of Turkish check-fraud probe

Turkish authorities began a second wave of a check-fraud investigation linked to an operation carried out in 2019.

The Ankara chief prosecutor’s office coordinated operations on October 13 in Ankara and other provinces.

Investigators identified 11 new suspects and began legal proceedings against nine under laws covering money laundering.

Financial checks found about 31.5 million lira in suspected criminal proceeds and 12.6 million lira in assets believed to be linked to laundering.

Investigators say the proceeds were moved through different bank accounts and used to acquire assets in the names of relatives and other people.

The investigation is continuing to trace the money, related assets and people involved.
