China publishes 29 examples of redeveloping underused land
China’s Ministry of Natural Resources published 29 land-reuse cases in a new collection for 2026.
The examples come from 19 provincial-level regions and cover six approaches, including planning, land assembly, changing land uses and clarifying ownership.
They describe projects in cities and rural areas involving industrial, commercial, residential and other sites.
The projects aim to turn underused land into space for new industries and urban renewal, as well as services, cultural activities and environmental improvements.
Some cases show how changes to approvals and land arrangements helped projects move forward, including reuse of old factories, warehouses and historic buildings.
The ministry says it will publish a new collection each year during China’s 15th Five-Year Plan period, covering land redevelopment and other ways to use land more efficiently.
The stated goal is to support urban renewal and higher-quality development in cities and rural areas.
