Kyushu Shinkansen suspends all services after pantograph fault

Kyushu Shinkansen suspends all services after pantograph fault

The Kyushu Shinkansen stopped running across its entire route after a fault was found on a train at a depot in Kumamoto, Japan.

The problem was found at about 10:05 p.m.

on Oct.

12, after the train entered the depot.

A pantograph is the equipment on a train that connects it to overhead power lines.

A part from the faulty pantograph had fallen off, and JR Kyushu was searching for it while checking the overhead wires for damage.

About 10 trains that were moving when services stopped were held at nearby stations, and inspections found no pantograph problems on those trains.

JR Kyushu expected services between Hakata and Kumamoto to resume around noon on Oct.

13, and services between Kumamoto and Kagoshima-Chuo around 2 p.m.
