Police in Bekasi, Indonesia, have arrested and named a 28-year-old teacher at an Islamic boarding school in South Bekasi as a suspect in an alleged abuse case.

The teacher is accused of abusing 10 female students, with allegations that the abuse began in 2024 and that he used ruqyah, a form of spiritual healing, to approach them.

These claims are still under investigation.

Police are also looking into whether three other people were involved and whether there may be additional victims.

A local family support center and a legal aid group are arranging legal representation for one victim during the investigation and any trial.

Local agencies are also offering psychological and social support to victims and other students affected by the case.

Police say the investigation is continuing and that interviews will be handled with attention to the students’ safety and rights.
