Nigeria’s House seeks independent probe and military aircraft audit after fatal crash

A Nigerian Air Force aircraft crashed in Ondo State, killing military personnel; no survivors were reported.

On Tuesday, the House of Representatives called for an independent investigation into the crash.

Lawmakers said the Air Force may also carry out its own inquiry, but argued that the incident’s circumstances need independent scrutiny.

They also called for an audit of military aircraft and maintenance systems to check safety standards and identify gaps.

A lawmaker cited concerns about funding, spare parts and maintenance as factors that could affect aircraft safety.

Search-and-rescue teams, including local divers, worked at the site near Igbokoda, and lawmakers said the crash happened close to a populated area.

House committees were asked to investigate the crash and recommend corrective steps, while lawmakers urged the government to provide timely funding for military maintenance and operations.
