Morocco's PAM agrees to form coalition with three other parties
Morocco's centrist Authenticity and Modernity Party, or PAM, has agreed to form a coalition government with three other parties.
The agreement follows the September 23 parliamentary election, in which PAM finished first.
Together, the four parties hold 207 seats, more than the 198 needed for a majority.
They include the nationalist Istiqlal party and moderate socialist parties.
King Mohammed VI appointed PAM leader Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri as head of government and asked her to form a cabinet; she is the country's first woman in the role.
The coalition will next propose its cabinet lineup, and the government will oversee final preparations for the 2030 World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Portugal and Spain.
It will also face pressure to address public concerns about jobs, education and health services, while the king retains sweeping powers over key areas of policy.
