Canberra national security precinct will cost at least $1 billion
A major government complex is being built in Barton, near Parliament House in Canberra.
The National Security Office Precinct is intended for agencies including the Office of National Intelligence and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
The government says purpose-built, more secure facilities are needed because some agencies are at or near capacity.
The project will cost at least $1 billion, but the exact amount is being kept confidential for commercial and national security reasons.
Up to 5,000 workers are expected to be based at the precinct, which will also include public-facing hospitality and retail venues.
Construction began in late 2024 and is expected to finish by the end of 2028.
