Amílcar Olán reportedly left Switzerland for Dubai and Eastern Europe

Jorge Amílcar Olán reportedly left Switzerland for Dubai, then traveled to an unnamed country in Eastern Europe after his home in Lugano was identified in late September.

Olán is a Mexican businessman linked to Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, the son of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

A columnist says Olán is moving with 3 billion pesos, most of which the columnist says does not belong to him.

The columnist says Mexico’s attorney general’s office and financial intelligence unit have at least two investigations involving Olán, despite public denials that he is being investigated.

One inquiry concerns a 1.4 billion-peso transfer by his sister, while another examines links to six companies and possible money laundering and political campaign financing in Baja California Sur.

Authorities are also trying to determine whether the companies were used to move money from the Sinaloa Cartel.

The columnist says Olán has spoken with US officials, who are seeking formal statements that could be used in legal proceedings; his current location remains unconfirmed.
