Australian ballerina Mia Heathcote joins Zurich Opera House
Australian ballerina Mia Heathcote, 32, has moved from Melbourne to Zurich to join the ballet company at the Zurich Opera House.
She had not visited the city before moving and says she has settled in quickly.
This season, she dances the role of Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, choreographed by Cathy Marston.
The ballet is based on William Shakespeare’s comedy and is scheduled to premiere on October 11, 2026.
Heathcote’s parents were both professional dancers, but she says they did not push her to follow the same career.
She has had two ankle operations and chronic neck pain, and says a professional dance career cannot last forever.
She wants to enjoy performing while she can, though she has not found a replacement for the excitement of live performance.
