Billy Crystal says losses have shaken his faith in God

Billy Crystal says he has stopped talking to God after a year marked by major losses.

His home in the Pacific Palisades burned in the Los Angeles wildfires, and his longtime friend and collaborator Rob Reiner and Reiner’s wife, Michelle, were murdered in their Brentwood home in December 2025.

Crystal said the events damaged his trust in God, and that the state of the world also feels frightening.

He has used humor to get through difficult periods, and says performing his new show, “860,” has helped him cope.

The show follows his earlier one-man production, “700 Sundays,” which focused on the death of his father when Crystal was 15.

Crystal is 78 and said he feels good and remains optimistic about the future.

“860” is in previews on Broadway and is scheduled to open on Oct.
