Anne Carson wins 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature
Canadian writer Anne Carson has won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature.
The 76-year-old poet, essayist and translator is currently in Iceland, where she was staying when the Swedish Academy called with the news.
The Academy praised her bold writing and its playful engagement with classical literature.
Carson’s books often cross the boundaries between poetry, fiction and scholarship, and she has translated works from ancient Greek.
She has also written more than 20 books, including poetry and hybrid works that combine different forms.
The Nobel recognises a writer’s body of work and is widely considered literature’s most prestigious international award.
Carson said she was surprised and joked that the judges were crazy to honour her.
