Vidyut Jammwal says Street Fighter co-stars know Indian martial arts

Indian actor Vidyut Jammwal plays Dhalsim in the upcoming Hollywood film Street Fighter, based on Capcom’s video game series.

Jammwal says the character’s martial arts and yoga practice made the role feel close to him.

He has trained in kalaripayattu, an ancient Indian martial art, since he was three.

Jammwal says several of his co-stars, including 50 Cent and Noah Centineo, know about kalaripayattu and Indian culture, and can blow a conch.

He says working with the cast was a life-changing experience.

Jammwal hopes the film will help bring kalaripayattu to a global audience, though he says the martial art will have its own time.

Street Fighter is scheduled to open in theatres on October 16.
