Mexican peso falls to its weakest level since November 2025
The Mexican peso weakened against the U.S. dollar on Friday, Oct.
9, closing at 18.41 pesos per dollar.
That was its weakest level since November 2025, and the currency lost 25 centavos over the week.
The peso had benefited from Mexico’s higher interest rates compared with U.S. rates, which can make peso investments more attractive.
That advantage may shrink if Mexico cuts rates and the U.S. raises them, as one analyst said could happen by the end of the year.
Other concerns cited include possible U.S. restrictions on diesel exports from Mexico and worries about Mexico’s projected budget deficit.
The peso’s decline matters because it means more pesos are needed to buy U.S. dollars.
The sources do not say what will happen next to the exchange rate.

The currency depreciated 1.15 percent that day, or 21 centavos from its October 8 closing level.
Over the week, the peso lost 25 centavos against the dollar.
The decline was linked to the possibility that the interest-rate gap between Mexico and the United States could narrow further.
Analyst Gabriela Siller also cited concerns about possible US restrictions on diesel exports and Mexico’s projected fiscal deficit.
