Mexico inflation accelerated for a second month in September

Mexico’s annual consumer inflation rose to 3.45% in September, up from 3.26% in August.

This was the second month in a row that inflation accelerated.

The monthly increase in consumer prices was 0.42%, compared with 0.20% in August.

Underlying inflation, which excludes some more changeable prices, eased to 3.75%, while non-underlying inflation rose to 2.45%.

Mexico’s central bank, Banxico, kept its key interest rate at 6.50% at its September meeting.

Minutes showed that three of its five board members said rate cuts could be considered if inflation prospects improve, though the bank said risks to inflation still lean upward.

The minutes did not set out when a cut might happen.
