Mexico’s medical costs are forecast to rise 13.7% in 2027

Aon forecasts that medical costs in Mexico will rise 13.7% in 2027, down from 14.8% in 2026.

That would be higher than the 10.4% average forecast for Latin America and the Caribbean, and far above Mexico’s expected general inflation rate of 3.4%.

The forecast measures expected increases in the cost of covered medical treatments and services, not the increase in every health insurance premium.

Still, high medical costs have contributed to rising premiums in Mexico, which have increased by an average of 23% in recent years and by as much as 80% in some cases, according to sector data.

Mexico’s insurance regulator has reported that one million major medical insurance policies were canceled.

Aon points to conditions such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, hypertension and diabetes, as well as more expensive prescription drugs, as factors driving medical costs worldwide.

The forecast indicates that costs in Mexico will remain under pressure in 2027, even as global medical cost growth is expected to ease.
